Testing 1, 2, 3

In preparation for the workshops ahead, I want to give a sneak peek of what we will be creating together. Of course, these are only my samples and responses to the sun, rain and wind. I am excited to see and listen to the community’s ideas.

For the sun workshops, we will be drawing with black and white paint pens on mirror pieces. The black is to capture the shadows and the white to mimic the light. It is a beautifully simple way to observe the effects of the sun and if you look closely, you can see the patterns in the background behind.

The rain workshop has been a tough one because one of the key materials, the etching cream, only arrived this week. I feel it was worth the wait as the subtle effect showcases the nature of water well. We will be playing with contact paper to create cut out patterns on top of the glass. The etching cream will be applied over it to distort the transparent glass and create the contrast.

Wind will be explored with fabric and coloured sharpies that can be drawn directly on top. After, cuts and snips will be inserted in the fabric to welcome the movements of the wind. I love the elegant way it represents the element and you really have to experience it in person to get that full effect.
These are just three of my favourite pieces as I made quite a few to use as the hidden sculptures for the “Find Me Game”. Everything is pretty much all set and ready! Cannot wait to bring these explorations to the community at Lions Park this Saturday.
